How can you cross pollinate flowers? Can you cross pollinate two different flowers like rose to yellowbell ?

December 302009

Me and my group mates have this project we need to work on. We decided on cross pollination of flowers. And we were wondering if we can cross pollinate two different kinds of flowers.

Nope, sorry. That would be like trying to get a cow to mate with a cat. Just not a good match of genes. The flowers need to be of the same species. You need to take pollen from one flower and apply it to the sticky part on the other flower.

Cross pollination is a very extensive subject and if you want to know more about it get a book or two on the basics first, some flowers can be cross pollinated but a lot depends on the group and family and this is where the knowledge comes in, but it is a very large subject.
