My Aunt did that to her wedding bouquet... I'm not sure what she did to them; perhaps spray modge-podge on them?

But if you want to use them in scrapbooking, I suggest drying/flattening them first, and then doing the hardening thing.
References :
Hi,
If I want to dry my flowers I catch them before they start to die so you'll have one less day to enjoy them. Hang them upside down by the stems. I just put string around all the stems and hang them in the craft room. You will see how well they dry.
Also any store like Michael's sells a little tub of powder that you actually surround a blossom with by putting in a bowl or something and covering it. It tells you how to put it in the microwave and your flower will be dry in a matter of hours.

If you want to use flowers for scrapbooking, you don't even need to harden them. Just flatten them out & let them dry. You can flatten them out by closing them in a book and leaving it there for several days. Then, just place it on the scrapbooking paper where you want it, & put the scrapbooking paper in between the plastic pages. :)
