I have been in several weddings and am married myself... my oppinion and views are as follows.

Pros of real flowers. smell pretty
                                    look pretty
Cons they can die befor the event is even over
            they are not very strong
            very expencive
Pros of silk beautiful
can get out of season flowers
                     very cost effective
                     hardy
                     easy to work with
most people wont know they are silk
cons
there will be some people who don't care for them

this summer my sister got married and had real flowers they cost close to $4,000 for 7 bm 7gm and the fam. it was hot and our flowers were wilting befor we got down the aisle. The flowergirl stept on my flowers and broke many of them as i was helping her up the stairs so we just stuck pins in them to stay up.

I had 4 bm and 4 gm and the fam for my wedding and i made all the flowers for ours with sliks and no one knew they were fake and they cost $60 and were breath taking.

All in all it is your decision but if you are looking for a way to cut the budget this is the way.
good luck
References :
My best friend used silk calla lillies in her wedding and NO ONE could tell that they were not real. They were so life-like that some of the bridesmaids (that didn't know) were smelling them. It was so funny. I still have mine. They are in a vase on my table. Everyone that comes in smells them and comments on how beautiful they are... and I tell them they are fake! Good luck.
References :
Oh yeah, her flowers came from hobby lobby.

Go for the real ones. I went to a wedding a few months ago where they used silk flowers. It was the kind of church with 3 sets of pews and two different aisles. I was sitting on the side of the church farthest from the Bride when she walked down the aisle and I could see across the room they were fake. I know real flowers are more expensive, but they look so much better. I got married last June and go my real flowers for a great price. I was fortunate enough to have a bridesmaid that could do my arrangements for free and I ordered my flowers in bulk from samsclub.com. It's a once in a lifetime day. Go for what looks best. Good Luck!!!
References :
If you pick the right flowers, silk or real won't matter. In my opinion, Gerbera Daisies in silk look real. You can search around and you don't even be able to tell.
References :
You could always use some real flowers mixed with the silk ones. Go to a craft store like hobby lobby or Jo Ann's and look at the silk ones to see if they could pass for real ones. Chances are from a distance no one will know unless they are a completely unnatural color for that flower. Also, I don't know if you wedding will be indoors or out, but some real flowers will wilt quickly in outdoors weddings and may attract insects if they have a strong sent. Although, my wedding was outside as well as the reception and we didn't have any problems with real flowers. Personally, I just like to look at the real ones, but if you use silk ones you can keep your bouquet forever! Good luck.
References :
I think there's nothing wrong with having silk flowers.
However, I also believed that for our wedding, it was such a special time that it called for real flowers - it was a July wedding, and we used lots of bright happy colors. We thought it was not worth cutting the cost by a few hundred dollars just for that. Fresh flowers are just awesome -
References :
As a photographer I have seen that brides choose real flower for their bouquet because it’s a tradition and it fits their budget. The brides that have used silk bouquet have had to use it twice, example, they married in Los Angeles and they will travel to Hong Kong for a second Reception for the relatives that could not make it to L.A.

So it all depends. How is your budget for flowers, and will have to use them again?

i am using silk. from afloral.com
they have the best prices and selections.
i am getting my bouquet, a toss, 2 bms bouquets, head table arrangement and 10 centerpieces for under $200, ends up being 166 items, not all single stems mind you. (oh if you total is over $199 you get free shipping till 2-14)
and i can give you a code for 5% off your order too- email me!

the way i see it is as this....
you spend 5 times that on fresh flowers and they wilt and die in a week or so. you throw a bouquet to waiting ladies in the crowd and it gets trashed.
most ppl throw out their centerpieces.

my flowers will last forever. i can display my bouqet at home in a bookcase with my special knick knacks.
the centerpieces will be donated to the reception site for future brides to use if they wish- they can add or replace flowers from mine to customize theirs.

the flowers i ordered are all sooo very real looking too. no cheapo silks in my bouquet!!!
References :
b2b 9-20-8
