Can you dye silk flowers or better off using real flowers?

January 212011

I’m getting married in June and my colors are a deep purple (David’s Bridal calls it "Lapis") and silver but I’m having a hard time finding flowers in that dark of a purple. Is it possible to dye silk flowers to match the color or would I be better off using real flowers instead?

silk flowers can and are dyed in this color already.

Where can I get the most realistic fake/silk flowers?

January 192011

I live in Maryland and am looking for a supplier of high quality "silk" flowers. They must look as real as possible and have a nice hand. I sell upscale hair flowers and mini hats for weddings and the quality of flower of that I’m able to find around here is horrible. Michael’s, A C Moore, Joanne Fabrics..they quality just isn’t there. Does anyone know of a really good quality supplier? Any help would be appreciated.

How to Make an Arrangement with Silk Flowers?

January 42011

Silk flower arrangements continue to look more and more realistic. They offer a lot of cost benefits over real flowers and I am wondering how to go about making a floral arrangement using silk flowers.

Silk flower arrangements can be made rather easily with the right materials. Here are five easy steps to follow for learning how to create a silk flower arrangement.

1) Determine the location in your home or office of where you will be placing your floral arrangement. Once you have selected a location, document the colors (reds, pastels, etc.) and style (traditional, modern, etc.) of the room.

2) Once you have determined the colors and style of the room you will be placing the silk flower arrangement, it is now time to gather the appropriate materials. Start by searching online for silk flowers. You will find many sites that offer silk flower stems, bushes and leaves. Choose the most appropriate silk flowers to match your style and colors of the room in your home or office.

3) Once you have selected your silk flowers, you will need to buy a decorative vase or container for your silk flower arrangement. There are many styles and materials to choose from including glass vases, metal urns and ceramic pots.

4) Once you have the silk flowers and decorative container, it is now time to arrange them. Using your creativity, begin to build your silk flower arrangement. Start by arranging the larger silk leaves and greenery and finish with the silk flower stems.

5) Lastly, shape and fluff the silk flower arrangement and place it in your home or office to enjoy for years to come.

Silk Flowers Part 1

June 172010

This group is from NYC and is on a short tour of the west coast. The vocalist reminded me of a cross between Bauhaus and Joy Division. Electronica with a few drums and a contact mic on the microphone stand give these guys a unique sound. They played at Cairo Gallery on Capitol Hill in Seattle. The venue was very small and got really hot without any fans or anything, still a fun show to see.
